Daicey Pond, Baxter State Park, July, 2014

Katahdin, 2015

My year-long journey to the top of the mountain.

The day started out feeling rushed but ended up very relaxed. It took a few hours to pack up, do some errands, and finally get out of Portland. We reached Baxter State Park around 4:30 pm and a half hour later arrived at our cabin, "Loon Lodge", at Daicey Pond.

That evening was very mellow - we made a fire, played Yachtzee, ate dinner and went to bed early.

On Wednesday we hiked around Daicey Pond, about a 2 mile hike. The trail starts with a steep incline and then is pretty level for the rest of the hike. I started the day with pain in my left knee and leg, already limping a bit and feeling stiff. The first part of the hike was pretty tough and I was worried it would be too hard for me. But once it leveled out it was alright. The hike itself was beautiful. Green trees and moss in the woods. Blue sky and lake. Just spectacular. I was relieved to reach the end of the trail but it was a wonderful hike.
